Wow it’s hard to believe that this is the last newsletter of the year. Time just seems to fly by so fast and life becomes a blur. In the spirit of the Holiday Season I ask you to be mindful and slow things down. Listening to the radio the other day I heard a musician say, “for Christmas I’d rather spend time with my friends than spend time shopping for my friends.” What a great thing to say. In other words, let’s all give the gift of ourselves and spend time with friends and family. Perhaps going to lunch with friends, telling childhood stories with family, helping a neighbor – whatever the moment calls for because life is made up of all those tiny moments and they go all too fast never to come again. Make sure the people you love and mean so much to you in your life know it this holiday season. I think you got the point.
Studio news: there is lot going on this month and the upcoming month. As some of you have noticed we are changing up the art on the walls. In order for us to continue to do this I need your help supporting these fabulous artists. Come to their open house receptions, bring your friends, drink a little wine, look at fabulous art and tell everyone you know what a great opportunity this is to see more local artists’ work. As we head toward the New Year it also brings up Yoga Challenge time. The challenge board will be going up by the end of December so you can sign-up and make that New Year commitment to get healthy and stick to your yoga practice. Many of you have seen the brochures around the studio about the Get Healthy Workshops I encourage you to take advantage of these wonderful workshops to work on specific issues you may be having in your body and to deepen your practice. This is a great opportunity to work with a very knowledgeable teacher in a hands-on setting where he will address specific body issues. Drew Corrigan is a healer. He has trained in body work as well as therapeutic yoga and it is this knowledge he will draw on when he teaches these wonderful classes. You can sign-up in advance for multiple sessions at a savings or show up that day and pay for a drop-in or pay for all 4 sessions. You will get the most out of these workshops if you take all 4 sessions. They will be well worth your time and money. I kept the cost as low as I could: a 4-week session for $60, drop-ins $20 per class or take multiple 4-week sessions and only pay $50 each. They are slightly higher cost than a regular session because it does require extra time and effort from the studio and teacher. I assure you though you will also be getting a deeper class experience in these sessions – a time to ask questions and to work on specific issues you are experiencing.
As always I thank you so much for your continued support of the studio. It is for you that we exist and it is you that make it possible for us to come in and do what we love. January will begin that busy time of year when people head inside to Hot Yoga. Classes will become fuller and it will be more important that you arrive just a few minutes early to get checked in and get your spot in the classroom. As always I ask that if you love the studio and the classes you take here please spread the word to friends, family, co-workers and people you meet everyday. Word-of-mouth is the biggest source of growth for the studio and it is growth that allows us to stay and serve you, doing what we love. Happy Holidays to all of you I truly wish you many blessing of the season!
As is tradition at Yoga Fix Studio we are having 1 class on New Year’s Day – it will be a 10 am Hot Yoga Class and it is FREE! So arrive early to save your spot and kick off the new year with Hot Yoga!
As winter arrives so does the snow, sleet and ice. If you are ever in doubt about whether we are open for class please call ahead before getting on the road. I will do my best to post cancelled classes on the voice mail at the studio. Closings will NOT be on the Web site. My general policy is this: snow is not as big of a deal as ice. Snow we can drive in – ice on the roads is a hazard and I want my students and staff to be safe. So, snow on the ground, most likely we are open. Ice making the roads too hazardous and we will most likely close for the day or part of the day. So again, call ahead if in doubt and check the voice mail message – this is you line to information. Thanks.
Here’s how it works. Friday nights (4:30 pm Vinyasa and 5:45 pm Hot Yoga) throughout the Month of December classes will be just $5. You can either use your existing class card or pay the $5. With the holidays just around the corner who couldn’t use a break! It’s my way of saying thank you for supporting Yoga Fix Studio all year long.
Speaking of which, as we move toward our busy time of year I ask you once again to spread the good word. This is such a wonderful thing you do for yourself so tell your friends, your family, your co-workers and neighbors, - heck tell people you’ve just met. We just love new students – it’s what keeps the studio growing and thriving!
Featuring the Photography of Angie Jennings China: New and Old Saturday December 12th 5 pm to 7 pm
Angie had the fabulous opportunity to spend 6 months in China where she was able to capture the contrast that exists between Old China and Modern China and now she is sharing what she saw with us. It is a wonderful exhibit that is making its debut here at Yoga Fix. Angie has been a professional photographer for almost twenty years. She still uses traditional photography methods preferring it to the new digital age. This is a rare chance to see some wonderful photography as well as a glimpse into the culture of a changing China as captured in 2003.
So please come support these artists, both established and new up-and-coming. Bring your friends and take this opportunity to meet and greet your fellow yogis and artists. I have artists set through February and am looking for more artists. So your suggestions are welcome. With the holidays just around the corner you may find that perfect gift for yourself or someone on your shopping list and if not you got to enjoy some good wine and conversation before heading off to the rest of your evening.

About these Workshops
This series of 4-week long workshops has been designed to address specific problem areas of the body. You’ll open each class with breathing to warm you up and get you ready for practice, next you’ll move into postures focused on specific areas of the body, close with some relaxation breath and get 2-3 postures to practice at home during the week. Stick with this practice all 4 weeks and begin to feel a noticeable difference in the way you look and feel. While Yoga is not a quick fix, it is a lasting fix when practiced regularly. Chronic issues do not come on overnight and they take time to work out. These 4-week workshops are designed to build habits that will overcome imbalance in the body and restore your natural healthy state.

Drew has a passion for yoga bringing a gentle, healing energy to his teaching. He teaches a blend of flowing Vinyasa with alignment-based classical or Inyenger style. Drew lexplores the alignment and flow of energy in a pose so that he may then integrate that into the “flowing” form of Vinyasa yoga to structure the series of postures he uses in his classes.
Drew completed 200-hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Certification with highly regarded yoga teacher and author in July 2008, having previously completed numerous shorter teacher training workshops with respected national teachers such as , , , Paula Tortolano, , Renee DeTar, and , plus many hundreds of hours of practice and instruction under wonderful yoga teachers local to Kansas City. Drew is also a certified and licensed YTU (Yoga Tune-Up) instructor.
In addition Drew is a body worker who is trained in a variety of healing techniques. It is this blend of knowledge in yoga and body work that Drew will bring to each class as he focuses on specific areas of the body to restore and maintain health.
Yep, it’s that time already. That time of year where resolutions are flying fast and furious. We’ve just come off the holiday season of feasting and it’s time to shed a few pounds and work off those carbs and sugars that have us feeling sluggish. This is our 4th year of the Yoga Challenge. For those of you who have not been here for Yoga Challenge you may ask what’s it all about – well it’s about shiny stickers – it’s about making friends – it’s about doing something healthy for yourself and it’s about getting support to stick with your goals. Because who doesn’t like to see a bunch of shiny stickers after their name on a big poster board for all to see. Who amongst us doesn’t remember the thrill of getting a gold star on your paper in grade school and let’s face it there’s not that many places in life we can still go and get a gold star as an adult.
The Challenge is simple. You sign up your name on the Challenge Board. Commit to coming at least 2x a week – 3x or 4x is even better. We always love to see those of you who commit to 6x or 7x a week – that’s a lot of shiny stickers! Then beginning in January when you come to class you get a sticker and put it on the square by your name for every day you attend. At the end of 6 weeks I will look to see who has completed the challenge by coming consistently 2x or more a week for 6 weeks. There is a make-up week at the end for people who get sick. It’s like dieting you have to have the 7th day to rest; too much rigidity and it’s just a recipe for failure and we want you to see your name with lot’s of shiny stickers by it! Ok, so you’ve completed the challenge you look fabulous – you feel unbelievably good – now we are going to give out prizes because you earned it! Prizes to be determined but rest assured, it will be worth it – why because you look and feel so FABULOUS!
So join us for Yoga Challenge 2010 and get your friends to join with you; it’s more fun if you have a buddy!
