July, 2009 Newsletter
Summer is in full swing and it’s quite busy at the studio. I’m happy to see classes staying full both with our “regulars” and all the new faces. I know many of you have noticed the slightly higher temps in the room and increased humidity. While I usually don’t like draw attention to the heat and humidity of the room I think this is a time of year that it is on people’s minds. Nature is providing us with a little extra humidity boost, but I assure you we have kept the humidity in check. Just be sure in those hot, humid classes hovering around 109 degrees with 30+ percent humidity that you are hydrated when you get to class, drink plenty during class and continue with the fluids after class. And while water is a great fluid to hydrate with don’t forget to get those electrolytes as well. Hot Yoga is designed to help regulate your body temperature as you work out so this actually is a great time of year to strengthen your practice. And for those who love the increased heat and humidity this is your time of year.
The day of the calendar are filling up with workshops and events, so be sure to keep an eye on the boards in the studio and the web site. In August we’ll host Yoga in the Park. This will be our third year to head to the great outdoors on a Saturday morning for some yoga on the park lawn while raising money for local charities. See details in the article below. We will do another women’s self defense class this Fall, as well as some therapeutic workshops for various body parts such as knees and ankles, backs, neck and shoulder, etc. If you have suggestions or would like to see particular topics addressed in the studio please let me know and I’ll see what I can do. I’m beginning research on bringing in some guest yogis. I’d love to hear your feedback on this. The idea is that it is always good to broaden our perspective of the practice of yoga. There are so many great teachers throughout the country.
Well, this is what has been on my mind and on my plate this month. I sincerely thank all of you for the referrals in June. We had a great month for new people, which come mostly from you our students each and every time you tell someone about the studio or bring someone new to the studio. This is what helps us continue to grow so that we can expand what we have to offer you our students. So thank you for your enthusiastic support. I hope you all truly know what a gift and blessing it is for me to get to get up everyday and come to the studio. I love having a “job” that I enjoy and inspires me; a place that I, my employees and you the student can come that feels like home; a place where you can let off the stress of the day and feel welcome. Thank you all for being a part of this great journey.
Sincerely,
Mary Horvatin

3rd Annual Yoga in the Park at Mill Creek Park
Benefit for Harvesters and The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City
Saturday, August 22nd
Want more information, now you can go online to get details. This is our big once a year charity event where we take time out to give back to the community and have fun taking our practice outside – toes in the green grass – faces kissed by warm sunny breezes.
This year we will once again be including Doga (dog yoga.) Doga will kick off our day with a session beginning at 9:30 am and ending at 10:00 am. Registration will begin at 9 am. If you are going to donate to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City I encourage you to bring cash donations.
We will follow Doga with a people yoga session beginning at 10:15 am and ending at 11:15 am. Registration for yoga is open from 9 am to 10 am. Once again we will be asking for donations for your participation. We will have a barrel for Harvesters as well as collect cash donations for the Humane Society. So bring your canned goods (there is a list of needed items on the web site) or cash.
Can’t make it to Yoga in the Park we will have a barrel for Harvesters beginning August 1st. Bring your canned vegetables and fruit, canned meat and tuna, peanut butter, boxed meals such as mac and cheese, pasta roni, hamburger helper, cereal both hot and cold, soap, deodorant, and shampoo.
In the spirit of giving back Yoga Fix Studio will also be giving a percentage of your purchases to the Humane Society during the month of August. For every full-priced purchase of a class package, Yoga Fix Studio will give 5% to the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City. For example purchase a 12 Class Card for $130 and $6.50 will go to the charity. Plus as your thank you, you’ll get a FREE class with purchase. So that 12 class card just became a 13 class card. Look for details August 1st when the program rolls out in the studio.
